Returning to the Poetry Scene in 2024

Poetry has always defied easy categorization. It varies wildly in terms of subject and aesthetics and form, perhaps more so than any other written or spoken endeavor. Right now, it seems poetry might be undergoing a renaissance (again) driven mostly by an unprecedented diversity of voices and a proliferation of technology. We are seeing the limits of form and content being tested while traditional forms and academic poetry still thrive.

Certainly, more people than ever before are being exposed to poetry of some kind. Debates about the quality of all this poetry persist, as they always have. However, the sheer volume and variety of work now – good and bad – is simply reaching a larger audience than ever before.

In any case, it’s an exciting time to be reading and writing poetry.
